How To Use Game Film
Why do you need video and what do you do with it?
The purpose of purchasing film is to use it for the college recruiting process. Players should start compiling a library of game footage in preparation to create a highlight reel. When contacting a college coach, one of the first things they'll ask for is to see your highlights. Other benefits of having film are to review your game play, show friends and family, and share on social media.
Turnaround Time - How long does it take to receive footage? All footage will be sent within 14 days or less from the ENDING point of the event. It typically takes 2-4 days, but again we stress it can take up to 14 days. It is possible that we will film over 1000 games including multiple events in once weekend. The number of games filmed in a weekend could dictate the turnaround time, footage will be made available within 14 days from the conclusion of the event.
How do you know what team I am on / which game I want?Unless otherwise noted, we film ALL games/matches on ALL Fields/Courts for the entire event or specific divisions, typically athletes in rising high school divisions and older. Please read the event product description to see what is being auto covered at your event. If you're playing in one of those noted divisions, your teams matches are going to be filmed and we don't need to know in advance - so you are all set even if you didn't tell us. Ordering in advance will allow you to take advantage of our "early-bird" rates. After the event, we will notify you when the film is processed and when the footage is ready. From there, log into your account and follow the prompts to choose your team and which game(s) you want!
Does NLV Film from an Elevated Position?Unless otherwise noted in the main description at the top of the event product page, NLV will film all games from an elevated angle of 10ft or higher. Safety is a priority at NLV. In the event severe weather or other scenarios present a dangerous situation for our videographers or nearby spectators to be around the elevated equipment, NLV will move to the best grounded vantage point a facility allows.
Can I use Footage NOT filmed by NLV in my Highlight Reel? How do I get it to you?Yes! Your highlight reel can be made from any film you own. It can be made from footage you order from NLV, any film you send us or both! How do you get it to us? When you order a highlight reel we have an uploader where you can drag and drop files that upload directly to us or paste a download link to a file you already have online somewhere. As long as you own the rights to the film, we can use it.
Does NLV zoom in on one player? We do not zoom in on one player individually, we film the game as a whole from a medium to wide shot following the action. Matches recorded being zoomed in on one player is useless from a coaching and recruiting standpoint. Off-ball play is just as important as the ball carrier and its crucial to see the play develop. If you prefer close-up shots, game film can always be zoomed in during the editing process, but not the other way around! If you are involved in the play, you will be covered!
Why do I need video? Why do you NEED video? Plain and simple it increases exposure during the recruiting process. Coaches have limited time and budgets to view high school players. They are limited by NCAA regulations as to the amount of communication they can have with a player and are even subject to blackout periods where they cannot view tournaments or programs. During these periods they watch footage - more specifically, highlight reels of players, a compilation of their best overall plays from multiple games only a couple of minutes in length, approximately 15-20 plays total. At tournaments, there are only so many athletes a coach can see and often the coach’s assistants are sent to help with scouting. The coach’s assistant will take notes on players and report back to the coach. Having the ability to compare notes with actual game footage, or better yet, a highlight reel, is crucial in the recruiting process.
